We got back from our trip on Thursday, and, truth be told, I was glad to be home. Don't get me wrong - we had a great time - it's just...a cozy lakeside cabin is the perfect get-away for a couple. A couple who can spend lots of time lounging around on the couch in front of the fireplace, listening to the waves and guzzling wine. But with a very mobile baby? The cabin was not so relaxing. In fact, it was kind of exhausting since we didn't have the full array of toys, space, and cats to entertain Bella. I kept wanting just to chill out and read a book, but that wasn't happening. Woe is me with my middle class problems. Husband and I decided that the next time we take a trip like this we will either go sans children or bring grandparents along to baby-sit. As I read over this (rather whiny) paragraph I realize that I need to add one thing. While a baby might prevent much relaxing and lounging, they do help encourage a great deal of
doing. Were it not for Bella we would have missed some of our mini-adventures and exploration of new places. So it's all good. Just a different kind of good, you know?
Exploring Two Harbors, the nearest town.

Perfecting our Blue Steel looks.

Some might argue that an ugly $2 Chicago hat might take away from the sophistication that is the Blue Steel, but I say they are wrong. Nothing, but nothing, says dead sexy like cheap wool.
Northern view from our deck.

(For the record, I am seriously proud of myself for knowing that I was facing north when I took this picture. AM SO SMART AND ORIENTED.)
One nice thing about having a baby? You will never miss a sunrise again.

Bella's favorite part of the cabin was the ceiling fan, which she adorably pointed to about 60 times a day.

I am going to miss her bear cub coveralls oh-so-much next winter.

VEGETARIANS-LOOK AWAY!

In this picture you can see our kill draped over the back of the couch. You can also see the steak we grilled for dinner on the table.
Mmmm...meat.
The baby is (finally) asleep so we're boozing on the deck. Quick, quick! Time to relax.

[In case you want to check this place out for yourself,
here is where we were staying.]
