A Week in the Life Project: Saturday

Today was an all-around nice weekend day. Got some boring task things accomplished but also had fun. I'll let the photos do the talking. Oh! And Bella took her first tentative steps. I think we'll have an official walker in no time.

Soundtrack for a rainy Saturday.
Breakfast. Husband eats the exact same thing everyday: Kashi Heart to Heart cereal. It's an intimate cereal.

Baby tossing

Brunch @ Spoonriver Cafe with my friend Amy

Carrot & Potato Hashbrowns

Smoked Salmon & Spinach Buckwheat Crepes.

I found my baby decorated with her own bindi when I got home. She is 1/4 East Indian, after all.

Aw...
Getting strapped into her car seat.

At the fishmonger. Heh heh.

Awesome pic. This was at the library...for the third time this week. (Addiction comes in all forms.)
Picking cat hair out of her mouth. Typical.

If you thought that last picture of me yesterday was nice, get a gander of this shot.

Here we have quinoa (Husband likes to tell me that it's a complete protein ALL THE TIME, even thought I am a registered and licensed dietitian), seared marlin in a soy-honey glaze and mashed horseradish edamame. Husband thought perhaps "mashed soy-tatoes" would be a better name for the edamame. Has a nice ring, don't you think?

Shrimp Cocktail. First time making my own cocktail sauce and it was ridiculously easy & better than the bottled stuff.

Nothing spells romance like unwashed hair and old gray sweatshirts...

  1. Laura - I would also love to see a "recipes" posting...but more than that I would love to know how you pick your meals, including any planning process you might have for your menu (what to eat when, shopping for your food, picking things that go well together, choosing recipes, etc) and finally I want to know how you make such delish-looking meals with a baby. Basically, despite my RD-schooling I need some help in the meal department and you look like you have it all together. Teach me Laura, teach me!

  2. Gosh that food looks amazing. Who taught you to cook? My husband always expects a side of burnt with any meals I make... lets just say that my Mom wasn't the greatest chef and I learned from her. LOL. Love the pic of Bella and Daddy. LOL to random people to the right. Ha! Yay for walking!!!

  3. Katie - I'm getting all excited for doing posts about my meal planning & recipes & things. And I have it together 65% of the time. The other 35% is Chipotle & frozen pizza :)

Care - Ha - side of burnt! I would say I'm mostly self taught, although my mom always cooked dinner so I was around when she did that. I also took a food science course in college where you could cook food as part of a lab, so I picked stuff up there. Finally, I would do cooking with eating disorders patients when I worked in that field and I also was a big part of menu planning when I worked at the University last year so it's been a part of my professional life, too. Husband did mention the other day that I wasn't a very good cook when we first got together, but that has since changed. I like how I didn't remember that I was ever a bad cook. Selective memory!
