When did baby come? July 1 at 9:38 AM. I was 39 weeks and 6 days. So the Starbucks giftcard winner is BLUEJEANAMY!! It couldn't go to a better caffeine-consumer.
How long was labor? 2 hours active labor (4+ cm to delivery) & 5 hours early labor = 7 hours total
How big was baby at birth? 9 lbs, 5 oz and 21.5 inches long. Surprised us all. Except Husband. He always thought Oliver was going to be huge. I should note that Husband was almost 10 lbs at birth - someone is taking after daddy!
How big is baby now? 9 lbs, 10.5 oz as of today's home nurse visit (we have had a lot of follow up due to his jaundice). He gained over 3.5 oz since yesterday!?!?
Total pregnancy weight gain: 44 lbs and a final weight of 199 lbs. Want to see a graph? The dietitian/math-loving/type-A/freakazoid in me just loved graphing along the way.

Weight Loss Since Delivery: 16 lbs in 7 days. If I do the same pattern of postpartum weight loss as last time, I'll stabilize for a couple weeks and then lose 1-2 lbs/week from there. I'm thinking my clothes will mostly fit by September or maybe October and then I will be lookin' goooood by our annual trip to Sanibel, FL in November. Feeling really calm/fine with my current weight and appearance.
Symptoms/How I'm Feeling: The nausea from pregnancy lingered for a few days after birth, to which I said: ZOMGGAHSOANGRYWTF!?@?!! Oof. That was one this I had been banking on ending with delivery, but no such luck. Finally, though, it seems gone. Reflux also took a few days to disappear. Now the major stuff I'm dealing with is related to the hemorrhage/anemia: extreme fatigue and weakness with a side order of dizziness. From what I've heard this will take weeks to resolve, not just days. Weep. As far as regular postpartum stuff, however, I'm doing quite good - only had a 1st degree tear and my nipples are already pretty much healed from that initial breastfeeding trauma.
Stretch Marks Status: Yes, I got a few more now on either side of my lower belly. They are already quite pale and don't really bug me. Given Baby Bruzzah's humongous size, I'm surprised I didn't get more.
What I miss about being pregnant: Are you f-ing kidding me? Um...I will miss going to prenatal yoga.
Baby's Disposition: He's such a sweet boy. He only cries when he's hungry and even then it's only when he's REALLY hungry. Very snuggly little man. He's starting to have more periods of wakefulness now and it's fun to see his eyes look around the room. His eye color is currently dark, smoky blue-ish with some brown in the center - maybe they will be two-toned like Bella's and mine?
Mama's Sleep: Not great, but it could be worse. I'm getting some 2 hour stretches now (as of last night) and am taking naps when I can, although naps at weird times leave me groggy and crabby. When I sleep it is definitely better than pregnancy sleep since I have all sorts of positioning options versus just lying on one side.
Baby's Sleep: Very much a sleep-eat-poop kind of lifestyle at this point. He sleeps in 1.5-3 hour stretches.
I am loving: Having my mom here to help. I literally could not have handled this past week without her help.
I am spazzing about: Being on my own for periods of time next week after Husband returns to work and my mom has returned to Montana. I will have my mother-in-law's help for hopefully much of the day, but it will still be a scary transition given how weak and pathetic I am.
I am looking forward to: Feeling like myself and having normal amounts of energy (well, relatively normal amounts of energy given the sleep deprivation).
Belly Picture: Because I keep it real, yo, here is me in my pale-faced glory at one week postpartum. There was no squishing those boobs into the usual purple sports bra.
And a few other pictures:
Bella continues to do great and is loving all the extra attention from grandparents. She's such a trooper and it has made me fall even more in love with her little being than ever before. Also? She told me "You look so beautiful, Mommy!" when I wore a dress the other day. What a charmer!

LOVE the pics! All of them! Oliver looks so absolutely perfect in the shot of him by himself. And, I love the one of him and Bella. What a great big sister, although from what you say about her, I kind of thought she'd rise to the occasion for the role of big sis :) Congrats!
ReplyDeleteis it just me, or is Oliver a boy-verson lookalike to Bella?!? i can't remember newborn pictures of her, but knowing what she looks like now, the photo of Oliver looks SO much like her! plus, you're making me have a wee bit of an itch for a 2nd baby...
ReplyDeleteBelated congrats Laura! How lucky you are to have a healthy little girl and boy!
ReplyDeleteI'm unforgivably behind, I'm sorry to be late to the Congratulatory Party. But congratulations!
ReplyDeleteKid looks great! Family looks happy! I'll hold off on any knock-knocker commentary... Glad to know that all went well.
oh my gosh, he is SO handsome. i love me some biggish newborns because they only look cute and never alien-like ;)
ReplyDeleteyer belly is majorly down! crazy how that happens...i've heard tell of ladies showing up at the hospital with their pre-preg clothes thinking they'd wear them home (??????) but i was the opposite and figured i'd have the same size belly when i left. huzzah no!
and YES! i won i wonz! this could not come at a better time, as i seriously consume more caffeine now than ever before in my LIFE. <3
Another similarity between you and me...our kids never lose weight, just keep gaining. Yay for chubby babies!
ReplyDeleteYou have the cutest kids ever. Love the pics!
ReplyDeleteI remember Annie gained something like 5oz in a day in the beginning too - crazy! That pic of Bella and Oliver just KILLS me.
ReplyDeleteAlso, you look so great! Bella was right :)
Thanks all!
ReplyDeleteAnd Rachel R - he is looking more and more like Bella as his face swelling goes down. I want to put some pics side by side to compare!
Oh Laura I am so enjoying reading your post-baby #2 posts. I am glad to hear you are adjusting relatively well and hope you overcome the anemia stuff SOON. I am sure you will feel amazing at that point!
ReplyDeleteAlso - What is that adorable knitted thing that Oliver is in in the picture with him and Bella?
So exciting!!! You will do great when the help goes home. And you will master the things that seem so scary and complex soon enough!!@ you make beautiful babies!!!!!
ReplyDeleteKatie - Isn't that knit pod thing funny? My aunt made it for us. When we first opened the package we were like, "Whaaaa?" It looked like a gigantic hat. Then we opened her card and there was a picture and we figured it out :) Of course, Oliver is just a smidge to big for it already. BIG HULKING BOY!
