November was...erm...uh...
November is over! HOORAY!
Yeah, it was not my favorite. Nothing capital B sort of bad, but it was two scoops of frustrating with a cherry on top. Some bloggable reasons, most not. And really most of my wah-wah-life-is-soooo-hard probs are likely due to the fact that I've traveled deep into the land of no sleep. Biggie did get his sleeping under control for about 3 days in early November, but that feels very long ago and far away. And then he completely gave up sleeping in any sort of a multi-hour stretch during our recent (VERY VERY LONG) trip to Florida so now we are doing some sleep training. I'm hopeful.

There are some that think starting solids would help the sleep drama (cough-Husband-cough), but I'm stubbornly waiting until Biggie is 6 months, even though Biggie is OBSESSED with trying to eat our food/drink our drinks and he seems hungry all the time. Maybe it would help him sleep better. Or maybe not.

Isn't this why parenting is fun? Because you can be all over the map with your parenting choices? WHEEE!
[Insert other thoughts here, maybe thoughts about unicorns and Ryan Gosling. I will let you decide. It will further your creative thinking.]
And while I'm updating you on my life, I would like to share the happy news that my BFF Thrush is back. He came on vacation! Dude just loves warm weather and my nipples. Which is reasonable, really.
[Insert long, boring paragraph about why I hate thrush so much, ZOMG more wah-wah-mah-life-is-soooo-hard sort of nonsense. And add a cup of vinegar to it, because that helps kill the thrush.]
One of my long-time favorite bloggers, Linda from All & Sundry, recently wrote this about a family trip.
I’m glad to be out of the reality of the visit and looking back on the handful of photos I took that show some of the brightest moments. That is often the magic of photography, don’t you think? Whether it’s a blurry badly-framed Instagram image or a gorgeous high-end SLR photo, sometimes you can choose to focus on the spirit of what you captured, and let the rest of it go.Yes. Yes, yes, a thousands times yes to that. So how about some pictures from the beach?
PS - Gah, sorry about the irritating amount of time it's taken me to finish the last chapter of the love story. Lack of time, writing mojo, etc. Soon...
So glad to here you're home. But that's freaking unbelievable about the thrush: it should just Stay Away, and not pick on tired people on family vacations.
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling frustrated about your thrush, so I can't even imagine how frustrated you must be feeling! I hope Bella has been her funny and adorable self to help brighten up the days!
ReplyDeleteOh no not the thrush again! Yikes that sucks. Did I go away once you got back to MN?
ReplyDeleteI know lots of people think solids help sleeping, but I honestly don't get how it could for quite some time - I mean, at first they are ingesting like a tablespoon. I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir here :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you're back, and hope things settle down for you soon!
True yet annoying story--my 6 month old (big girl) had slept through the night 4 times by her 6 month appt. She was eating cereal but that's it (aside from milk). Added rice cereal to her bedtime bottle, per pedi's advice, as well as vegetables--girl was happy, happy, happy--and has now slept through the night ever since (the past 4 nights). So, solids, shmolids--if you're holding on til 6 months, good for you--you know best--and it's right around the corner. :-) We were told to go with sleep training if that didn't work but so far, not necessary--hurrah. :-) And, Ryan Gosling is hotter now than his MMC days, for sure. Loved the sweet pics!

So sorry things aren't going well right now... I can't imagine the lack of sleep.. and am really starting to dread it coming up shortly in a couple months. For what it's worth, here's my take on sleep training - if you need to try it, do so. There are so many different theories out there, how can anyone really know what is wrong? Remember when we grew up and slept on our stomachs... gasp, what were our parents ever thinking. I'm sure when our kids have kids, they will think... oh my, what were they doing by sleep training me, "x" is the new thing to try. So, whatever... try it, especially if it helps your sanity! And... boo for the thrush! That totally sucks... although I had a small laugh when I remembered that picture you posted before of Oliver with purple lips, classic :)
ReplyDeleteLove your beach photos! You guys are GREAT cheerleaders!!!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about the thrush. Have you bleached all of the toys in your house that he might get his mouth on?
I've only had it in my mouth and had a liquid antibotics.
Thrush again?!! I call bullshit on that, UNIVERSE. Ughhhhh!
ReplyDeleteNow you're home, and now hopefully you can breath a little easier, even if the sleep thing doesn't get significantly better immediately... you're HOME. Thank goodness for that.
I'm pro sleep training...I've never actually had to do it with either of my kids, but I am pro moms sleeping, therefore I am pro sleep training.
ReplyDeleteI was hesitant to start solids before 6 months too...but after a couple weeks of craptastic sleep (which really wasn't bad compared to what you go through, but it was bad compared to how Addie June had been sleeping up until 5 months of age) so I gave her some oatmeal and BAM she was back to sleeping 12 hour stretches within a day or two.
And, after seeing Crazy Stupid Love, Ryan Gosling is my new boy friend. The thought of him (particularly the part of the movie when he takes his shirt off) makes me all giddy and giggly, hehe!
Hope December is a better month for you!
KT - The thrush seems much improved now, but I did a course of gentian violet after we got back to MN as the nystatin treatment for his mouth didn't cut it. Crossing fingers we are done. This cold, dry environment helps...
ReplyDeleteMama Tully & Lisa - You guys have me reconsidering my stance...
