Week in the Life 2012: Wednesday

Another day. OOF, hard to find time to put these posts together.

Nursing first thing. We nurse twice a day now. Once upon a time I imagined I would nurse until Oliver was18-24 months (I nursed Bella until 20-ish months), now I'm grateful for each additional day. 10 months would be great, a full year wonderful. Then we'll see...

Always all squished in there in the mornings.

I decided to go for the half & half in my coffee, stomach issues be damned. I had to use it up before it went bad, right?

Bella has a bit of a surprisingly tough time with puzzles so I try to encourage them. I heard somewhere that very verbal kids sometimes have trouble with spacial stuff and I'm wondering if maybe that's why? On the flip side, she is close to reading so that's cool.

Baby tossing before work.

It's a babysitter day! Woo hoo! I will admit that I'm conflicted about her help. On one hand - it's so great for getting things done and giving me space. Really beneficial from a mental health standpoint. On the other hand, I feel guilty about the expense, especially since she is currently coming two mornings a week instead of one since she had extra time available. I need to just EMBRACE the time and let go of the guilt surrounding it. We don't have our parents nearby so this is pretty much it in terms of help. I also need to stop filling that time purely with errands & tasks like grocery shopping or icky to-do items. So today I kept it errand & task free...for the most part, anyway.

Coffee & internet in my bedroom.

I decide to go to yoga for the first time in eons...actually for the first time in about 9 months and 26 days.

I have been going here on and off since 2005 so it takes me back to go into the building and studio. Interestingly, Husband was the one who got me into hot yoga by bringing me to Bikram. Then he quit going and I got really into it.

After yoga the instructor asks me about my pelvic floor. I enthusiastically say it's great. Because I didn't really know what else to say. Haha. How's your pelvic floor doing these days?

Home, post-shower. I will have pink cheeks for hours.

I went to Wild Roast (a coffee shop/restaurant) not far from our place and got a curried chicken salad, diet coke and a peanut butter rice krispie bar. The bar totally put me over the top. Ugh. I spent an hour getting my Shutterfly book started for the Week in the Life project.

Back home before naptime. Bella took approx 25 self-portraits on my phone. She did this again later in the day, too.

Reading before naps.
I decide to nap, too. It is such bliss having this option once again now that Bella is napping. I don't get it. At all. Why would she not nap for weeks and then BOOM nap easily once again? Such a mystery.

I wake her at 4 pm to prevent a super late bedtime and she is not so happy.

The quickest way to end drama is to get outside STAT so we decide to go to the grocery store to pick up a few things + dry cleaning. Plus, I want a latte :) Bella perks up quickly "I feel better now, Mama" and takes pictures from the stroller with my old point & shoot camera.

On the way I ponder dinner plans and decide that the soup I had planned would not be good since it's so warm & humid out. Then I decide we should have a picnic - I wanted to check out a new playground anyway. I pick up some Nacho Doritos to make it a full fiesta.

I pour out a special surprise for Husband.

B wanted to take her tricycle and I thought it would be good practice/exercise. This was not a good idea as Husband or I carried it most of the way. Also, she hasn't figured out steering so it can be quite the arm work-out to keep her from careening into the road.

I can't believe this playground has always been here and we didn't know. It's so much better than the other two right by our place.

Realize it's almost 7 pm and Oli has to get to bed. We head home and start Oliver's bedtime routine. He loves having his teeth brushed/brushing his teeth.

Get Bella in the bathtub, girlfriend is dirty.

Bella likes to carefully lay out her clothes. Those are her pinkies next to her pjs. Parents, take note: this is what happens when your child find the "back-up" lovey you stuffed away in the closet. Haha.

After Bella's bath, Husband decides she needs a haircut this very night. He did the last (and only) haircut and did a good job so I don't mind. But then he cuts off A LOT of hair.

I look like this as I see what is happening before my very eyes...

Oops. But Bella loves it so all's well that ends well, although I will admit to being bummed that she won't have those pretty ringlet curls again for a while.

I spend the last half hour of the day reading blogs and answering a couple emails before heading up to bed. We are both exhausted, per usual.

And that's Wednesday!

  1. Wow, he did cut off a lot! I'm excited to see a picture of what it looks like dry. I bet it's super cute!

  2. EEE!!! That is a big hair cut! Did it look super short once it was dry? We STILL have never given Lilah a haircut and I desperately want to...it's all strawlike on the ends so the already difficult task of combing her hair is made even worse. I literally only comb her hair maybe once a week...sometimes less :/ . But my husband is super anti-haircut for her. I love a short bob on little girls though, super cute!
I like seeing how you spent your "me time" this day. I feel like you got way more done than I do on my "days off" when then kids are at daycare.
Also, I just finished writing my day in the life, I just have to post it, but I kind of like the narration of events without time stamps. I think I'm going to write mine like this next time. Thanks for sharing your days. I really enjoy reading them :)

  3. You're totally justified in getting a sitter, it would be so hard with no family in town!! We have all our family here and it's still hard!

And I loooovve Corepower too, it's my occasional sanity-saving splurge, like better than going to a spa.

  4. I'm super super verbal, and not so skilled spatially. Never been a fan of puzzles, actually! But I have just done fine in life, despite that.... I just have other people organize my rooms. :)

  5. Mama Tully - Husband kept postponing her first haircut until he did a couple baths that included hair washing & brushing...he changed his tune pretty fast :) Maybe try that? :)

FVM - Yes, the heat does make it seem so spa like. The smells...not so much:)

Alison - This made me laugh - I never thought about those things in terms of grown-ups and their natural inclination towards verbal or spatial skills.
