Week in the Life: Thursday

Need to spend less time reading about your days and more time getting mine posted! Here's Thursday...

I woke up at 5:20 AM and remembered my promise to myself that I would go to yoga for the next 30 days. I know...total nutter move, BUT my friend is currently doing something similar so I'll have an exercise buddy and is it really SO different than the 30 day shred? I have always wanted to do a long stretch of daily yoga - what will be the changes physically and mentally? Plus, I, uh...may have impulsively bought an unlimited month long package and I need to justify that shit, yo!

But then it was early and I was tired so I decided to sleep in and figure it out later. And then I did something truly crazy and I GOT UP ANYWAY. So I went to hot power yoga at 6 am. 10 points for me!

Got home and woke up Bella. She was a little grumpy. Husband was playing with Oliver in the kid's room.

Bella wanted to be carried downstairs along with Oliver.

We love having juice in the morning, but cleaning it up is a pain. This day it was a cucumber/celery/carrots/spinach/mint/apple/pear combo. We split it between the three of us.

Daddy did a triple loop in the courtyard with his car as he left for work.. V. exciting.

Snuggle time with Toonses while Oliver takes his first nap.

The laundry and dishes have been mating like bunnies. ALWAYS REPRODUCING. Doesn't help that I'm still a little spazzy about only using towels once (thrush thing) and that I also quit using paper towels so there are a ton of washcloths & dish towels.

Two more months of formula! This stuff tastes sooooo gross - fishy from the DHA. Ugh.

We went to a music class to make up from the one that we missed the previous Saturday. Oliver normally doesn't get to attend so this was a treat for him. Music class is an anti-treat for me. I find it so exhausting!

I'm over carseats. Those things are a pain in the ass.
AHHHHH! I kid. Our tiny garage means that I can't access Bella's seat until I backup the car from the garage. So she rides in the passenger seat for about 15 feet. Normally I don't buckle her in, but she insisted. This is something I will abso-freaking-lutely not miss when we move to our new place - especially during next winter!

Music class.

Lunch.

After getting both kids down for their nap, I go to the kitchen to take my now daily handful of jelly beans. This is getting to be a BIG BAD HABIT.

Once again I decide to take a nap while the kids nap. And once again, it's sooooo luxurious. Such a SAHM perk.

After napping for an hour, I wake up on my own and decide to knock off a few kitchen tasks. I have been using the steamer basket on my rice cooker to make small batches of baby food and it has been working great. Here it's cooking quinoa and spinach. Most of the quinoa is for our dinner; the rest will be mixed with pureed spinach for baby food.

Chop, chop, chop.

Baby boy gets up. After nursing him we head back to the kitchen. I want to finish dinner prep, but he isn't wanting to play on his own. So Ergo time it is.

Finished spinach/quinoa and smooshed it into the ice cube tray.

Bella wakes up and is in such a great mood when I tell her that I chopped up some mango for her snack. She is very motivated by food :) I encourage her to eat quickly because we have to get to dance class. Then the usual crazy get-everyone-out-the-door rigmarole ensues. It's extra tricky when tights and a leotard are involved.

Get to the car and can't find my keys in the deep, dark recesses of my diaper bag. This is one of Husband's biggest pet peeves about me. I'm always losing stuff in there and keeping credit cards & cash loose. It's bad! I need to put stuff away in my wallet and put my keys in the same place each time, but it always seems like one of the kids needs my attention when I should be doing that so it doesn't happen. I eventually find my keys and we are off.

Extra time means I treat myself to a iced grande half-caf non-fat caramel macchiato.
Then my stomach feels miserable for the next two hours. Sigh.

Some of the littlest tap shoes that you ever did see...

My little one...not quite in line :)

I am amused by her bright Dora undies peeking out under her leotard.

Get home and Oliver needs to go to bed. Bella "reads" him Brown Bear (she memorized it long ago). It's a sweet moment.

Dinner - I made a Mediterranean quinoa salad and a curried chicken salad - both go over a bed of lettuce. I'm deeply saddened that we only have a wee bit of feta left for the quinoa salad.

Then I get Bella off to bed while Husband does the dishes from the day. Some lazing about on the couch happens and another earlyish bedtime of 10 pm.

  1. Aww, Annie loves to read Luke Brown Bear too - her version is pretty basic though :) Mostly just "what do you see?" over and over again.

  2. Any chance you can tell me more about this quinoa dish? I am in LOVE with quinoa these days - it really fits with our most vegetarian ways and seems to fit in so many dishes, but I would love to hear about one more.

  3. Katie - I didn't follow a recipe, but maybe I should have as it could have used some tweaking. Basically I chopped up cucumbers, tomatoes, a few olives and mixed it with quinoa. Then I added a mix of EVOO, red wine vinegar, lemon juice, garlic, and S&P to it. I left out feta (Husband avoids dairy most times), but find that to be an essential ingredient. I think the dressing was where I went wrong and also the quinoa was too mushy from the rice cooker. I'm sure googling mediterranean quinoa/salad recipes would get you something good!

  4. Aww, her short hair is adorable!!! I have such a love hate relationship with the diaper bag. I love that I can put everything in it, and I hate that I can put everything in it. Thankfully Leigha cleans it out quite often LOL.

  5. HA! My husband HATES going through my purse or diaper bag for something...which is a good place for stashing things I don't want him to find (like other men's numbers...I kid...more like milky way bars). I am loving your week in the life posts!! You must know before I started reading your blog I was a processed food, chemical cleaning junky, but now, thanks to you, I have changed so much about our lifestyle including more organic and natural products in our life. I probably wouldn't have even considered breastfeeding if it wasn't for your blog, but I have been nursing Ethan for 9 months! My supply has decreased recently and I have been having a hard time accepting the fact that I'm going to have to supplement with formula. Thanks a lot, Aunt Flo.
