I have a hot date with my realtor on Saturday night (srsly, he's so fine...I wonder if he's into me??) and we decided to use a gift card we have been hanging onto for Nicollet Island Inn. It's a fancy place right by our house.
All of my strapless dresses, including one that I only wore one singular wee time for my 28th birthday, remain a no go with my current top heavy figure. And since I hate shopping with the passion of one thousand burning suns, I have no interest in buying something new. So I'm going to wear this simple little black dress that I bought in Kiev, Ukraine a few years ago. It's hard to tell in the picture, but the material is almost a black tweed. The dress dips a bit in the back and has a slit in the back. It's my sexy Euro LBD.
But help me with shoes and accessories. I have strappy silver heels and strappy black heels in my possession and I am leaning towards the silver pair.

But what I think would really be fun would be hot pink pumps. That I could deal with shopping for. But would hot pink pumps plus tight black dress = trying too hard for a woman in her 30s? I also want to avoid looking like a hooker. I think perhaps part of my problem is that I'm so used to regular mom clothes that I feel like I look like a hooker anytime I'm dressing up, but...maybe I just look like a hooker?
When I was in college I would sometimes refer to myself as Big Leather at parties when I was two drinks to the wind because I had this ridiculous (read: ridiculously FABULOUS) leather miniskirt I was prone to wearing when I wanted to bring sexy back. But Big Leather needs to RIP. I would like to avoid bringing Big Leather back out. Help me to keep Big Leather at bay, while still maintaining an air of (age-appropriate) sexiness.
If I do hot pink shoes then what jewelery? I have very little to choose from so I would have to buy something. I haven't bought a handbag in 10 years (seriously) so if I got something cheap-y at Target, then what kind would I want? Matchy in a hot pink sense? Not matchy?
Other relevant info:
- I have a couple simple & small black bags that I could use if I don't get anything new.
- I don't do earrings.
- I plan to wear my hair down.

I like the idea of a closed-toe pump/heel with this outfit, tho. Just maybe not a super bright color? Maybe a cool pattern?

I'm not against a pink pump, BUT, and i'm not sure how you feel about black tights...but I have this obsession with them and I think they make any dress that might be too "sexy" or uncomfortable more conservative and put together looking? I also like pulling them up over my belly button and feeling all sucked in and skinny (that's a personal thing though ha).
ReplyDeleteI know that dresses that I loved before I was pregnant, I look at now and still love them but feel uncomfortable in them...and not that they are too sexy and I don't think your dress is too sexy either...just that if you aren't comfortable then you wont' feel sexy, hopefully I'm explaining myself well....
Anyways, that's my suggestion...try some black tights with pink pumps and I think it would look very pulled together. I buy my black tights from walmart, fancy I know, but I like how they fit and don't cut me off...and go all the way up over my belly button. Whoever thought low waisted tights were a good idea obviously never had kids.
So...I'm totally not much of a commenter, but you asked about shoes...so...here I go!! Yes, yes, and more yes to the pink pumps!!!! I was similarly draw to such a need a short while ago and I had to do some real shopping (more than one pair may have been purchased and returned) to make sure that I found a pair that were no too hooker-ish. But, find them I did. So...if you're willing to put in some time...go for it! They'll look great with said LBD or jeans or even the right skirt/shirt combo!

The dress is great and your hair in itself is super hot. I say no to pink pumps because even though they sound fun they are more bachlorette party fun than nicollet island fun and they also involve shopping, blech. Realtor won't be looking at your shoes anyway!
ReplyDeleteI vote no on the pink pumps simply because I think they would sit in your closet after said date, never to see the light of day (or moon) again. Are you set on pink? What about another colour that might be more easily dressed down? Purple? Cranberry?

I would have to vote no as well on the pink pumps. Maybe because I'm more of a conservative person, but with that dress and the fabric that you describe, I would think more of a darker color like Lisa Lu said above like cranberry or purple.......purple would be VERY pretty (and not because its my favorite color either LOL) Or maybe even a royal blue. But me being frugal I would look at it as if there is nothing I would wear the pink pumps with other than the dress, so I would pick something else ;)

Anyways, I'm not wild about the hot pink pumps... but I'm an ultra conservative dresser and probably just would be way too scared to try them. I do like the idea of a darker color, like the purple that someone suggested, I think that would look awesome. And, to pair with some chunkier type jewelry.. that would be the way I would go. I think you could totally pull off the pink shoes, maybe not neon-but still bright. Peep toe might give it a more summer feel, simple jewelry, and maybe a scarf or wrap of some sort- in case it's chilly and for class appeal!
ReplyDeleteyou could go all Princess Kate and wear nude pumps (which make your legs lean and sexy) and then accessorize with a bright (maybe chunky) bracelet and necklace. You could wear all the pieces with other outfits but it would pull everything together in a very "grown up" but fun way.

ReplyDeleteThis might just be a personal preference thing, but would you consider red, nude, or even purple shoes instead of hot pink? I think hot pink might push it from sexy mama to sexy hooker. Target has a bunch of mossimo patent leather pumps in the aforementioned colors for $29.99, and I feel like you'd get more use out of them than the hot pink. I have the red ones, I can send you a pic if you are interested and don't want to venture out without seeing them first.
